About Acts Dance UK
Acts Dance Academy was originally founded in 2004 in Malaysia offering Music and Dance classes such as Ballet, Jazz, Latin, Hip-Hop, Modern, Tap, Violin, Piano and Guitar for students as young as 3 to adults. ADA follows the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, UK (ISTD) and the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing, AU (CSTD) syllabus. Students are sent for the yearly exams achieving results from the Top 2 category; Distinction and Merit. ADA also sends students for dance competitions. The company won First Runner-Up at the Michael Jackson's Flashmob Dance Competition in collaboration with the prestigious West End London.
In 2019, Acts Dance UK opened in Cornwall, UK by co-Owner of Acts Dance Academy, Hillary Tan. The school started in May 2019 with only 3 students and it has now grown to 45 students in a period of 4 months. We offer dance classes such as Ballet, Ballet Appreciation, Ballet Fitness and Freestyle Dance Movement. Classes are open to students from as young as 18 months to adults. ADU has a highly qualified team of staff who have undergone DBS checks and obtain the Public Liability Insurance as well as the registered teaching certification from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, UK (ISTD).
Hillary Tan (AISTD/RAD)
Hillary started Ballet at an early age of 2. When she was older, she took up other dance styles such as Latin, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Modern, Tap and Contemporary. Hillary was taught and trained in Malaysia at her mothers' dance school called Acts Dance Academy. Being trained under her mother, she has achieved the Top Grade; Distinction in all her dance exams.
She focuses mainly on Ballet, Modern, Tap and Contemporary under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) and the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing, AU (CSTD). She has completed her Ballet exams with the Royal Academy and Imperial Ballet until Advanced 2 and Intermediate level with ISTD in Modern Theatre.
In 2016, Hillary gained registered and certified dance teacher status with ISTD and have been sending in students from Acts Dance Academy for yearly exams. All her students have achieved excellent results; Distinction and Merit.
Besides exams, she has also participated in several dance competitions; Malaysian Dance Carnival, 18th Dance Society of Malaysia Solo Classical Ballet Competition and the ISTD Summer School. One of which was in collaboration with West End London where she competed in a FlashMob Dance Competition and won First Runner-Up and was invited to attend a dance workshop in Malaysia taught by the cast of West End London.
Due to her relocation to Cornwall in 2018, she was given many dance related opportunities such as leading a dance workshop at Jubilee Pool, Penzance on Flamingo Day 2019, training soloist dancers from Scruffy Mutt Dance Company part time for dance competitions, being a judge for a dance competition held at The Poly in Falmouth for Scruffy Mutt Dance Company and participated in several dance photoshoots with numerous photographers.
